25 Reasons Why We're Thankful for Adventures in Odyssey

Well, friends, family, and countrymen, we have arrived at the 25th anniversary of the best small town in America on the radio! Just think, it all started when, 25 years ago, Phil Lollar and Steve Harris began to craft an idea that, on November 21, 1987, "the adventure begins." We've been signed, sealed, & committed ever since! The following list is why we love Odyssey so much..let's take it from the top!

Josh in black, Ally in blue

1. Realism.
Everyone wants to relate to something even by a little to love something. It gives a connection to the audience, draws them in. Odyssey is beloved by fans at home and abroad for providing a "slice-of-life" every day for twenty five years.  Granted, it's not every day you might stop an evil company from taking over the world via mind controlled radio stations, but it is every day we deal with loss, love, and doubt in our faith.

2. Lessons.
How many of you have watched an episode of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo or Duck Dynasty recently?  We're not exactly in an age of educational, entertaining media. But like everything else, Odyssey dares to be different, telling quality stories with important lessons and teaching the FUNdamentals of Christian life! We learn the cause and effect  of our actions and learn how to ask God for forgiveness, to be lost and found! The big picture is made apparent when we learn to love others and see things differently, to live on earth as it is in heaven.

3. Action-adventure/mysteries.
The wonderful thing about Odyssey is that it transcends genres, times, and places. It's a timeless show which incorporates all kinds of genres, making it enjoyable for all ages. One of the most popular genres is action-adventure/mysteries. Jason Whittaker continues to thrill listeners with his exciting escapades...and with The Labyrinth winning Best Episode for Album 55, expect more in the future! We love to go in hot pursuit and help those with no way out, giving others a hand in the deep end. Mysteries are always popular because we get to see our favorite characters working together to figure cool stuff out! Case in point: Wooton and Bernard make a hilarious duo as Sherlock and Holmes on The Other Side of the Glass, while Whit and Connie investigate a stolen government computer while Waylaid in the Windy City. Exciting plotlines move forward other story threads with interesting elements, as we saw with in the Blackgaard Chronicles and in The Green Ring Conspiracy. With daring deeds, sinister schemes, Odyssey continues to enthrall listeners with action-packed awesomeness. Consider it Mission: Accomplished.

4. Emotion.
THIS MAKES IT ALL SOUND REAL MAN. JUST IT JUST *BALLS OUT IN TEARS* Just kidding, but seriously, the emotion and emphasis of the episodes the writers put into each one gives it feeling. It makes the episode what it is. Imagine an emotionless episode, you'd be bored out of your skull! Emotion like Clara made me cry, when Whit said goodbye to that sweet little girl, and the way she said "Good bye Mr. Whit", it gives us the wanting of something more, to make us laugh, to make us scared, to make us wonder. Odyssey embraces emotion; it never shies away, but finds new ways to explore what makes up emotion and how it affects others. Powerful stuff - and it's never on thin ice.

5. Family feeling.
After being around for 25 years, you can't help but be attached to these characters and this town. As a resident Odyssey nerd, "I can tell you what these people are gonna have for breakfast before they even know it themselves." (Monica Stone, Sheep's Clothing) We've seen different and memorable family dynamics throughout the years - from the Barclays (shoutouts to (D)Jave Griffin, Chuck Bolte, Azure Janofsky, Carol Bilger) to the Jacobs (Phil Lollar, Sage Bolte, Erin Bolte) to the Mulligans (Bill Myers, Vaughn Taylor, Chris Castile, Nicole Myers) to the Washingtons (Mark Christopher Laurence, J Karen Thomas, Kendre Berry, Courtney Brown) to the Parkers (Mark Evan Jackson, Amanda Troop, Zach Callison, Sydney Shiotani, Kelly Stables) and many, many more.

6. The Novacom Saga.
Ah, yes. The pinnacle of Odyssey's history. In this illustrious time, our friends teamed up to save the world as they knew it from mind controlled destruction by an evil corporation called Andromeda, creating a tidal wave of fascinating plot threads, interesting character developments, and memorable characters. Through Danger Signals to Countermoves to Battlelines, we saw how the darkness before dawn was as memorable - and as engaging and character-building - as the sunrise itself. It's another fine day...

7. The characters.
The grandfatherly Whit. The hilarious crazy Wooton. The sweet but clumsy Connie. The intelligent brainy Eugene. The sarcastic, but caring Bernard. And all the other unique characters. They bring Odyssey to its name, an adventure. These characters like the actors give us emotion, relate with us, and experience things we'd never imagine. The heart they have for God inspires and encourages kids and adults to love God more each and every day. Their life consisting of lessons, and experiences give us something to think about. To apply to our own lives. They provide us days to remember!

8. The sound design.
The sound designers are the hidden treasures of Odyssey. We don't acknowledge their contributions enough, but every episode is made all the more realistic by the designers bringing in sound to bring the world of Odyssey to life. We've seen incredible innovations in sound from The Imagination Station to Sgt. York, going beyond expectations, and I look forward to seeing (or hearing) them continue to take sound into new dimensions for listeners!

9. That score.
John Campbell is a fantastic composer. He takes us along for the ride on musical journeys that coincide with the characters we love on Odyssey's journeys, which is why he's so musically talented. If there ever comes a day when he releases a compilation of all his instrumental work done on Odyssey, I'll be the first in line. He's so great that's he made my list of all-time favorite composers, which includes Gershwin, Rachmaninoff, Thomas Newman, Michael Giacchino, and Hans Zimmer.

10. The Actors
These are the people who bring smiles to our faces, the laughs out of our mouths, and the emotion in our hearts. The actors put their whole hearts into speaking their roles. Odyssey feels like hanging with my own family because these actors are so incredibly talented. Much cred goes out to Hal Smith, Walker Edmiston (Wish you were here!), Katie Leigh, Will Ryan, Dave Madden, Alan Young, Paul McCusker, Earl Boen, Andre Stojka, Corey Burton, and the rest of the gifted cast who bring to life fascinating characters every day on the radio. They bring our virtual realities to life, crafting their part of stories that could only happen in your wildest dreams or in flights of imagination. These actors' performances are why we get so excited when Eugene Returns!

11. Imagination Station
Are you ready for a place of wonder, a time of discovery, and a passport to adventure? Then step inside Whit's greatest invention, which lets you feel like you're actually back in historical or Biblical times, and makes it possible to meet your heroes! Some of my favorite episodes have occurred inside this machine, such as The Perfect Church. The idea of going to other times...other places is a powerful part of our imagination and is brought to life in Odyssey!

12. Kids' Radio
Kids' Radio episodes must be incredibly fun to write. You're basically allowed creative freedom, as anything can happen on the radio. It's another one of the risks and rewards that make up what Odyssey is today, and inspired me on my own radio show! (By the way, if you're interested in listening, check out the Welcome! column on the right and click on the link on the links section.) From Hidden in My Heart to The Devil Made Me Do It, creativity never seems to diminish here. Love Candid Conversations with Connie! I'm so glad they're back on the air.

13. Online fan community.
All fans of Odyssey have a special bond. I felt it in Dallas and I even feel it online, which bonds even stronger when we have a shared love for God first and Odyssey later! We're all passionate, well-versed, smart, and fun to talk to, and I love talking to all Odyssey fans on the ToO, Soda Shop, Campbell County message boards, Facebook, and right here on the blog, and this past summer has been the wildest summer ever, with new Odyssey blogs springing up!

14. Whit
Odyssey would not be the same without Whit. Whit's the one we all love, who's so grandfatherly and wise. He gives us all the advice and teaches us in a way that makes us understand fully. In The Highest Stakes, Part 2, Whit was willing to pay Carson's debt even if he was a stranger. His imagination for kids and the way he relates to them draws people in. Whether anyone comes to Odyssey once Whit's gone, it wouldn't be the same. It would NEVER BE THE SAME. Whit represents the show in many ways: he is ageless, timeless, wise, humorous, and a strong Christian man. We've seen him transcend time in different interpretations of the character played by Hal Smith, Paul Herlinger, and now Andre Stojka, who together create a complex man who continues to be a strong role model for Odyssey and all of us to follow. That's why we were so glad when the search for Whit found him once again.

15. Humor + The Ceiling Fan
You'd think that a show targeted for 8-12 years old would only make that target demographic laugh - and that's many of them do. Odyssey manages the rare feat of making people of all ages laugh - from the hilarious Broken Window to Bernard's sarcasm to comedy even in the face of tragedy (a la To Mend or Repair). And while we're talking about humor, we might as well bring up The Ceiling Fan, the funniest Odyssey homage podcast on the Internet airwaves.

16. Christian worldview.
In a world that continues to mock Christianity, Odyssey moves into the light, showing the Christian worldview not shown in much media. I thank Odyssey for sticking with us 25 years through thick and thin and showing us a journey of choices while keeping us entertained at the same time in a moment of truth. Well done!

17. Gary Locke
Odyssey has had numerous artists create visions of our favorite characters, but Locke has successfully translated all of our characters in a similar style just in time, with his fantastic work on repack art.

18. The Official Podcast.
Meanwhile, in another part of town, every other week, we're in for behind the scenes updates, interviews with the casts, and hearing from Bob and Jesse!

19. The Odyssey Scoop.
The most informational Odyssey fan site out there. Check it out!

20. Reviews.
I look forward to going online each weekend and discussing the latest episode of Odyssey, either on the ToO or by reading some of the other blog reviews, like at Just Another AIO Blog, The Changing Times, Twists and Turns (more news than reviews), Out of Control in Odyssey (What can I say? ;), AIO Thoughts, At Whit's End, Dave's AIO Blog, and the Voice of Odyssey! Someone should totally start an Adventures in Odyssey Analysis college course.

21. Brock and Diane.
If you've heard the saying "Sugar and spice make everything nice," you obviously haven't met Brock Eastman and Diane Ingolia, who put sugar and spice to shame. Brock and Diane light up the Official Podcast with their hilarious guest/cameo appearances throughout the year with their charismatic, warm personalities. And just look at how well Brock/Evan does those Social Shoutouts and Diane emceeing for GITS! A masterclass in likability for your viewing and listening pleasure (Diane's on A Time for Action and The Top Floor, Albums 46 & 48)!

22. The Story Team!
We gotta thank these people, man. These creative, talented writers, directors, and producers create the world of Odyssey. They shape the episodes with different ideas and thoughts, but with one goal. I honestly love these guys. I really do. These people bring in humor, drama, great lessons, and imagination to bring AIO to the air. They create characters with personality, and history. You can tell from the episodes they put in a lot of themselves, making it the best they can for their audience.  I thank Phil Lollar, Paul McCusker, Dave Arnold, Kathy Buchanan, Nathan Hoobler, Marshal Younger, Bob Hoose, and the entire writing team for continuing to bring Odyssey to life year after year; the sky's the limit!

23. Whit's End.
Oh how I've wished we had a Whit's End in the Bay. A place where we can get free ice cream sodas and advice, where we can escape and try out new inventions, go inside the Imagination Station. The fact that there are no plans for Whit's End helps us realize that our world continues to unlock new bits of information every day, and that while we might not know it all, He does, and it's all perfectly meant to be in the grand design.

24. Focus on the Family.
They're especially helpful for you to have that perfect date with Dad and girls' night out for Mom. I'm thankful for FOTF, who continues to aim to protect and serve the family, bringing people together to say "Welcome home," needed more than ever in a time of divorce, mass abortion, depression, and cynicality. If that's even a word. Thank you for producing an encouraging, values-based, smart show for kids (of all ages)! Now about that spinoff for teens...(just kidding, I don't want to be ungrateful!)

25. Our Heavenly Father!
How could we not love Odyssey without Him? Without God, we'd never have the loving, funny, wise and impacting episodes as we have now. He is the Ultimate Inspiration and Storyteller; the Creator of poetry, prose, and powerful writing. He's also the bestselling author of the Bible, which tells the greatest narrative ever told: the Gospel, which should make us go clashing cymbals as we see the meaning of God's love.

Our Camp What-a-Nut Experience

Red=Josh, Black=Ally

"Today I took a long walk in the woods and tried to pray like I've never prayed before. And I did. The woods were so quiet and the sun was so bright that I felt like I was praying for the first time. It's like my faith was real for the first time. My dad told me it would be like this, but I didn't think so."

-Tom Riley reading Timmy's diary in Malachi's Message (Album 32: Hidden Treasures)

This past week, I had the opportunity to go to CBM (Chinese Bible Mission) camp in Forbestown, California. It was an amazing week which encouraged and fired me up for Christ. In short, I had a Camp What-a-Nut experience.

Hey this is Ally, here to tell you about a camp I went to called Chinese Bible Mission or CBM in Forbestown, CA (about two weeks ago) where lots of, well, Chinese churches (about 95% of the camp) go for a week journey about Christ.

Let me first say that when I was on the bus, I wasn't really thinking about learning about God as much. Sometimes I only pray to God when I'm worried about something, not all the time. Going to public school made my relationship with Jesus go off a little. I guess the reason for going to CBM was more of meeting new Christian friends, and having fun. Maybe it was a start, but I was still a little excited about going.

Camp did not start off the greatest for me. I went with my friend Micaiah, the tall Asian kid in our Odyssey Nerd video, and we arrived four hours late since we came right after I finished my film class. We didn't get to stay in a building made of gray bricks like Donny McCoy (Camp What-a-Nut, Album 2: The Wildest Summer Ever), but we did get to stay in a "cabin" made up of termite-infested 2x4s with screens for windows and holes in the walls. The bathroom was flooded. Turns out we had the honor of staying in the only non-renovated cabin since the camp began in the 50s or 60s. Fantastic. After an ice breaker, it was time for Canteen, where we could purchase items from the camp store (Sour Straws for 60 cents...WHATTTT). However, by this time, it was dark, and it was hard to see. We stumbled around for nearly half a hour, lost, lonely, and a little sad. Were we ready to experience 5 days of loneliness at a Christian camp? Thankfully, we kept walking and eventually found a couple people to talk to and introduce ourselves to.

My friends Ethan and Nathanael were the only friends I had from my church since we were the only ones to go to the Junior High Camp. But I kinda knew some other kids that I met previously at a Sacramento church, so I wasn't all too worried. Yet still I was a little worried about the camp, if I would enjoy and benefit like how others did.

The next morning, I woke up at 6:20, forty minutes before designated wake up time. I started praying: "Lord, I'm really lonely. Could you bring someone to be a friend to us? ...if it's in your will?" And meal by meal, God brought us to different tables where we met completely random people and had wonderful conversations with them. In fact, during free time on day 1, our lunch friends found us and introduced us to more people, and so on and so forth.

Once we were at camp, I met a girl who I've heard about from my friend, and she was so friendly, introducing me to her friends and just hanging out with me. Plus all the counselors and directors were just overall friendly, fun, and had such a strong faith with a heart just rejoicing God. Their willingness was so inspiring!

Throughout camp, I had the opportunity to meet lots of Christians who were hilarious and interesting, yet on fire for Christ. It was really encouraging to see. Two campers had even emailed me the week before to see if I had any questions; they also encouraged me to hang out with them if I ever needed someone. I loved the diversity of campers; we had non-Christians, funny people, insightful people, pessimistic people (When are we leaving?), and oddballs. Hey, it's like Odyssey!

The theme of the camp was a reBorn Identity in Jesus. Our guest pastor, Pastor Alton To, on the first day taught us that we need God to tell us what our identity is. We looked at the story about the Prodigal Son. The younger brother is mostly like us, since we walked away from our Father (God), we rebel against him, sometimes wishing he is dead because other things are more important. But once we've "spent all our money on arcade games (The Prodigal Jimmy, Album 4: FUNdamentals)" we realize we need to go home, that's where we find our identity, in the redemption of the son, Jesus. The older brother had an identity in religion, disrespecting the Father and not going into the party of his brother coming home. But God wants to be with and keep us forever. Pastor Alton told us both were distant with the Father in different ways. Which brother are you more like? How can you change your ways? When I heard his message, I was excited and felt like this was God telling me "Hey, you should talk to me more than you do. I'd really love to listen to my child more often" the inspiration and the want kept growing afterwards.

Our speaker, Pastor Peter Wang, spoke about putting our identity in Christ instead of in other things. He was very insightful, and I took lots of careful notes on what he said and the Odyssey references that related to them (which will be up in Sunday Morning Scramble Schools in the near future). On Friday night, we had a special guest speaker, Eric Chow, who preached an in-depth sermon about the Gospel. It was called "the Greatest News You Could Ever Hear," and we'll go over that in another post.

We later learned from him about showing God's love to others so they know you're a Christian, we are children of God (first born as children of Satan but now changed because God adopted us to be His!), what is our desire (the condition, how are we to desire, and what's our goal), who are we (our purpose, greatest problem, and how it is made right), and finally how can we keep our identity in Christ? (it's the gospel!) Our pastor was so true and you could tell he really wanted us to understand and to know by the info he gave us. His passion for Christ was so inspiring.

Life is like a dramedy. That's why I love Odyssey; it's so much like real life, mixing drama and comedy. CBM was that way too. On one hand, we had silly staff challenges, cabin decorations, chaos ball (extreme dodgeball), funny skits, Courageous, Texas Hold 'em, Steal the Bacon on a tarp covered with water and detergent, dot hunting, and Rock Paper Scissors Capture the Flag. But we also had serious discussions about God in our lives and what we want in a future spouse. The Bay Area is not necessarily a Christian hotspot, so to be able to talk and laugh with them; it was really encouraging to meet Christians from other parts of the state.

We were able to watch the movie Courageous, which I've seen many times, but understanding how the movie related to the theme and laughing at everyone laughing at every funny moment was great. I took workshops on God's will and dating (more SMSS posts to come!), making new friends as I went. My favorite part of camp was singspiration. Singing with 200 other people-or peers-to Jesus is a fantastic experience, and lots of fun as well.

At CBM we also had a chance to talk one on one with a counselor, just talking about life and our spiritual journey. That was one of my favorite moments, because I could get advice and just unleash all those worries and wonders? My counselor spent a lot of time with me, and did her best to answer my questions. It was so cool!

Life walks were great because the opportunity arose to just talk about anything about my life and ask any question I had. It was my first Whittaker moment, and it was very exciting. While my counselor is probably in his low 30s, he was knowledgeable about the Bible and life, and shared life stories and Bible passages to help me with questions and life directions. If you're looking for your Mr. Whittaker, try looking in your church, or ask your pastor if he knows of anyone that could mentor, disciple, or be there for you! That's what the church family is for.

On the last full day, we had campfire/ sharing for everyone. Lots of people shared, and it showed a lot of bravery, for jr highers to go up in front of almost a hundred kids (well to me, I'm a shy person) and just hearing kids share about their testimonies to others they don't even know? Wow. But just hearing people was so encouraging and you could see how God has worked and will work in their lives.

Our campfire session lasted for 2 1/2 hours because there were so many people who shared. This was one of my favorite events because you could tell that people shared from the heart. It was very moving to see how CBM, through Christ, had impacted them in their lives. People shared about depression, problems with abuse...there was even a non-Christian who shared that although she wasn't sure if she believed in God, she could tell that Christians were different.

Now that I'm home, back into the world, I feel like my faith has grown, and that it won't ever stop growing. Theres so much you can learn about God! I just pray that we will light up the world to show them who we are: children of God! If you got any more questions, comment! And I'll do my best to answer!

After being blessed with a great week of fellowship and worship, it was time to come down the mountain and return to daily life. What did I share at the campfire? While I'm not going to recap it word for word, I'm posting a quote from Jennifer from Three O'Clock Call (Album 46: A Date with Dad) which should explain why I enjoyed camp so much this week, and am looking forward to sharing more with you through SSMS.

"God is our Father. And that a father would not give his child a stone if he asked for bread...God, our Father, gave us bread! You, you are his face. He works through you. He is a good Father."

-Jennifer

The Live Show By the Kos

Black=Ally, Red=Josh

Hey this is Ally, not the amazing Josh who writes so much better than I do. I won't be on as much as Josh, but only once in a while, so don't get sick of me yet. A little introduction about myself? Age 14, loving art and writing and AIO, missing Mitch (who needs him?), disliking Emily Jones (She grows on me), and just wanting to go in the Imagination Station for an adventure. I am a much more interesting person than I seem, I'm told (sometimes...) but without further ado, I will stop talking about myself and moving on.

So you all know that in June, Odyssey had their 25th Birthday Bash in Dallas!!! Thankfully, we got the opportunity to go for the first time (thanks to our parents) and met so many amazing people! It was so great, hearing more about the actors even though we knew what their answers would be, and just seeing them interact with each other, having a blast! Plus I drew a picture (that I wanted to get signed for memories) down below!

The day before the actual Live Show, Chris Anthony, Katie Leigh, Zach Callison, and Will Ryan were going to be at the Mardell Christian Bookstore, being interviewed by KCBI (Dallas Christian Radio Station). Our family got there way early to record our "Get in the Show" auditions, plus getting there before any big crowds to look around, which was a very smart idea! It was our pleasure to meet and talk with some writers, producers, and so on! And also getting to hang a little with Kevin and Garrett (aka Ethan Daniels and Aaron Wiley from "The Ceiling Fan Podcast"), which was VERY cool! And we both won two VIP tickets each from a drawing, getting the opportunity for Josh to ask Paul McCusker (and me to ask Katie Leigh) a question. Later, we got to take a picture with the actors (totally like "AAAHHHHHH THIS IS SWEET!!!" right there)!

I loved the Mardel's event because it was so much more intimate that it felt like a family reunion. A hundred people or so who share a similar love for Adventures in Odyssey, the greatest radio show in the entire world, gathered together. So far, the trip in Dallas had not been amazing. The weather was in the 90s and I had a headache; not the best position to be at the Adventures in Odyssey Live Show. Fortunately, God happened to be working that day (in fact, his office hours happen to be 24/7/365)) and honestly, as soon as I saw Brock and Paul McCusker setting up for the event, my headache went away. Snap. Just like that. Meeting the voices you get to hear every week online and on your CD player/radio was one of the most fantastic experiences I've ever had. Brock acted like we had been friends forever, plus he signed my Quest for Truth books and recommended them to me, besides talking with me about Odyssey! (You heard it here first; powerhouse author Brock Eastman has endorsed the Quest for Truth books. I'm reading them right now and will review them when I'm done!) Intern Erin did a great job photographing and keeping the Get in the Show line (I audtioned for fun; I'll post it later) going. I did ask Paul McCusker if there was any info he could give out on Album 56, but as usual, he gave one of his cagey answers like he does with Dave Arnold every Producers' Podcast. xD Oh well.

We're not Odyssey nerds, we're Odysey gangstas.
The interview with Chris, Katie, Zach, and Will was not an interview; it was a large conversation. I almost felt bad for the interviewer as the actors (and the audience) kept going off topic...but that's what happens when you get to meet for the first or third time. The actors are so warm and personable that it's hard not to like them. Since we won VIP tickets, we were able to take a picture with the actors, and it was really neat hearing Katie Leigh say, "Hey, that's a great picture? What's your name?" even though Ally drew the picture. Will Ryan asked me what my name was, and I told him, to which he answered by replying, "Joss. Wow, don't hear too many of those." That's what happens when you introduce yourself and a hundred people are talking at the same time. One of the most touching moments was when a father won twice, and said he was so excited because he gave the first two tickets away to a family of four, and he won twice, so their whole family could go! Chris spoke about how that was a perfect example of why she loved the Odyssey community (by the way, she was the funniest part of Friday, cracking jokes and cracks a mile a minute). Meeting up with the Ceiling Fan guys (Kevin McCreary and what's his name...oh yeah, Garrett Vandenburg :) was also amazing because we got to meet them for the first time! Their podcast is the funniest Odyssey podcast on the airwaves today and it was so nice to meet them in person, joke around with them, and take a couple pictures (NOTE: If any gang members do see those pictures, we didn't know they were gang signs. Really.) I also had the chance to meet a mom from Pleasanton, in the same region we live in , and she was amazed that THERE WERE ACTUALLY OTHER ASIAN FANS WHO LISTEN TO ODYSSEY. So if you're Asian, and you listen to Odyssey, you're not alone, and besides, race doesn't matter, which we learned in Not One of Us (Album 9: Just in Time). But finally, the coolest part of Mardel's was walking up to the stage after I won. My mom told me that as I walked up, someone said, "Hey, isn't that the Odyssey Nerd?" Yes, yes it was!!!!! :D

The Live Show was at Irving Bible Church, and I gotta say that church was HUGE. Now I go to church in Berkeley, which could probably fit in one of the rooms or so! But it was very impressive and really pretty. To be honest for me, it didn't feel like I was in a church. It felt like I was in like an auditorium or theater, because of the audience size, and just the "big" feel. Since we won VIP tickets, we got to sit in the, well, VIP section. And guess who Josh sat next to! Someone who used to be a regular on Odyssey, with a super long last name, and  guest starred in Album 50. It was none other than Genesis Mullens Long or known as Lucy Cunningham-Schultz Davis! Josh had the opportunity to chat with her before the show, which is VERY cool! Soon, the actors came out, smiling and waving, Chris shooting out questions for the crowd, as bubbly as ever! Then it started!

QUICK PLUG FOR IRVING BIBLE CHURCH: We went on Sunday, and the message was absolutely captivating. God spoke through to me through that sermon as clearly as he does to Katie Leigh through those scripts. If you're ever in the area, check that church out; they also are very warm and friendly.

We were able to sit in the third row thanks to our VIP tickets, and I sat next to a woman and her young daughter. Wait a minute, I said to myself, she looks familiar. No, no...that can't be...IS THAT GENNI LONG? So, of course, I did the logical thing and waited to hear her voice. "Dana, look over there, it's Phil Lollar on the screen." NO WAY. NO NO NO WAY. So, of course, I took the blunt course and asked, "Excuse me, are you Genni Long?" It was, and it was wonderful getting the chance to meet, sign, take pictures, talk, and watch the show with her and her adorable daughter Dana. It was amazing looking around you and seeing the Arnold family, the Callison family, and the members of famous Odyssey crew families! The Live Show was I Slap Floor (Album 34: In Your Wildest Dreams): The Sequel basically, and it was had a Ceiling Fan aspect in that it made fun of itself, which was hilarious.

Personally, I did like the show, the actors and humor was great. It was indeed amazing to see all the action live, plus Dave Arnold and his son doing foley. But it just seemed... well the storyline seemed so kid like. Like it's been since Album 51. Synopsis: Penny needs inspiration, Connie and her go into the Imagination Station. But then Wootons bad guy from the Kids Radio airing goes with them and ruins all the places where theres beauty, and Eugene and Matthew need to fix how they can stop this bad guy, plus Jason is just wandering around for no particular reason. After all the chaos, and Whit's End almost dying, someone saves the day and they all leave. I still enjoyed it, don't get me wrong, yet I wished for something that us older Odyssey fans could also enjoy without feeling like this is for little kids.

After the show was over, we then proceeded to a turnstile in the spirit of Disneyland, and also in the spirit of Disneyland, we waited 2 1/2 hours to meet the Odyssey actors. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. As soon as they saw Ally's picture, they were excited to see their character's face handdrawn; the best part was when Katie Leigh saw it and yelled "Hey, it's Ally! Where's Ally?" MINDBLOWN. It was nice talking to the actors like they were old friends. Zach told us to visit L.A. sometime (we live in the Bay Area and our grandparents live in Anaheim, so it's great!) and I told him that his family had amazing hair (his parents sat in the front row). I forgot to mention that if he decided to patent it, he should trademark it as "the Callison Cut (Copyright 2012 Joshua Ko Just kidding)." Katie Leigh told Chris that "Ally's my Facebook friend!" (I now am too, but that's besides the point.) I told Andre Stojka how excited we were to hear his voice at The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh at Magic Kingdom last February (he's a hoot; laugh if you got the pun) and told Kimmy Robertson that I loved Penny Wise (I also love her; she was hilarious all day). Chris talking to us like we were her long lost nephew/niece (she's even funnier in real life; Odyssey team, you don't have to write a script for her) was great, but we forgot to mention our shared love for Castle! (ABC) With that, the show experience came to an end. It was one of the most spectacular weekends I've ever had, spending time with Odyssey fans, crew, and actors. I hope to be back for the next one, and hopefully we left some kind of impression with the Odyssey guys!

We did learn that beauty is everywhere, and so is inspiration. You just need to search in God, who has so much beauty and inspiration and love that only He can show. That touched me, since I've been having so many writer blocks, and no inspiration to draw. And so many times I keep forgetting about His majesty and power and the way He works through people and His other works. That's the thing about Odyssey. They serve for God and aim to spread His word through their ministry. Their stories can be relatable, giving us understanding to try and find a solution. Sometimes it's just for entertainment, to make us laugh, to stop and listen, cry, make us wonder. What would we do without Odyssey?

Dah dah dee dee dah dah dah. (Chris, By Dawn's Early Light)
